Introduction
I was introduced to ballet at the age of three; at Cornell I was able to strengthen my ballet and modern dance techniques and experimented with choreography during dance composition class. I still love dancing during my leisure time today to be aware of how my body connects with the environment, the music and light.
Intent
The intent behind the photoshoot was to bring the memory of my hometown to life with combination of dance and ballet in traditional and modern places. My hometown, Zhongshan, China is a prefecture-level city in the south of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province, with a population of over 3 million. It is named after Sun Yat-sen, the leading figure in the Chinese Revolution of 1911. I spent my childhood from 1992 to 2009 in Zhongshan where I attend ballet class every Saturday afternoon for over ten years.
The photoshoot took place in Zhongshan in December 2019 and January 2020 I was in my hometown ZhongShan, China where I had the idea of combining dance and ballet in traditional and modern places in my hometown.
