Green breaker - equilibrium in chaos
Project subTitle
Breaker, or breaking wave, introduces sudden instability, chaos and unpredictable kinetic energy while green represents the underlying equilibrium and balance in physics
Project Description/Intent
Green breaker is a collection of mix and match pieces that combine uncertainty and balance, in a dramatic yet logical format. This project is inspired by breaking wave, a type of ocean wave that is rare but so powerful that can unleash non-linear kinetic energy that are well desired among surfers. Breaking wave introduces disorder and opportunities; from the scientific point of view, the instability and chaos are bound by set of initial conditions that maintain equilibrium in the system overall. The project assesses fashion with a mathematical and scientific perspective given creator’s background in engineering. The collection embraces transition of materials that are drastically different which requires various way of assembling, sewing and treatment. The collection is made of silk, leather, lace embroidery and accessories that belong to the color family of green. Green signifies the Zen in the ambiguous environment and encourage audience to ask, “what is behind chaos”. Documentation of the creative process will be part of the project from initial sketch, brainstorm, mood board creation, material sourcing, to design, measurement, sewing and iterations. The output will feature the final dying process that will be splashed on with spot treatment that denotes the theme “chaos”.
