Overview
"Dancers at the Barre - Kitchen Alone Edition" was a digital art created this year. It is inspired by French artist Edgar Degas's original work - "Dancers at the Barre". The creation of the final piece included dressing up like ballerina, recording myself posing two roles in the kitchen.
Some of the tools I used to create the piece includes: Nikon D3500, Adobe Photoshop iPad, Adobe Photoshop Mix on iPad, Meitu iOs app, Adobe Lightroom.
This piece was submitted for French American magazine "France-amerique" photo contest.
Intent
I am fascinated by Degas's work- he spent more than 20 years observing ballerinas and working on his art pieces and he studied their movements and meaning behind them.
I love dancing during my free time and especially staying home alone in my NYC apartment now. I started doing some stretching and handstands when I was cooking in the kitchen. I have never thought I would be dancing there. When I discovered this photo contest, I can't stop thinking - "wow, what if I could combine where I spent a lot of time nowadays during quarantine and attribute to ballet?"
Execution
I spent my week imagining the composition of the piece and finally completed the photoshoot while making pancakes on Sunday. Since I am home alone since quarantine, I have nobody but myself - lots of propping of standing at the right position between the stove and the fridge, and self timer with my camera! Being a tech person myself, I then played around the layer using Photoshop Mix on my iPad.
