Acrylic on paper, April 2022.
Artist Statement
The work, Forest Spectrogram, visualizes sound in various forms through both psychological time and physical time as well as their relationships with human subjects. This project consists of a series of sound visualizations with digital and analog interpretations; each series originates from a sound clip that was recorded depicting human’s interactions with natural objects and ecosystems. The full body of work involves sound as input, two dimensional or three dimensional visualization as output, and the process of the interpretation.
This work references two sound clips: “decay of wood”, recorded in Spring 2021 in Windham, Catskills and “forest melody”, recorded in Summer 2021 in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
